Director of Goalkeepers

Hoover-Vestavia Soccer teams compete in MLS Next, NPL, and DPL. The club is looking for a full-time Director of Goalkeepers to guide our goalies through the player development pathway by providing daily on-field specialised training, seasonal match analysis, and regular player evaluations. 

The Director will lead the Goalkeeping Program in communications and interactions with member families, conduct coaching education, and serve as support to HVS team coaches. 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational:

  • Be the main point of contact for all daily HVS goalkeeper program questions and support
  • Assist in the execution of the Club’s goalkeeper development plan and support its implementation 
  • Oversee the day-to-day planning and implementation of goalkeeper training sessions for 12 weeks each season (Fall and Spring) for all 12U-19U boys and girls competitive goalkeepers.
  • Conduct seasonal programming to develop and identify the next generation of HVS goalkeepers.
  • Organize and conduct annual tryouts and team placement events.
  • Evaluate goalkeeper performance in both training and match settings using objective criteria. Utilize Veo and TRACE programs to provide video analysis and feedback.
  • Help facilitate weekly GK movement in collaboration with other Directors.
  • Warm-up and mentor goalies for home matches, and select travel events.
  • Conduct post-season evaluation meetings with every competitive goalkeeper at least 2x per year (and additionally as needed or requested).
  • Provide availability to players and families to meet as needed.
  • Act as an ambassador for HVS and the Goalkeeping Program at all major functions, putting forth the image of the club in a positive and inspiring way.

Supervisory:

  • Recruit and retain quality goalkeeping staff coaches. 
  • Supervise contractors and volunteer coaches. Hold regular staff meetings, keeping all coaches involved and updated with happenings across the GK program.
  • Oversee “GK Apprentice Coach Program” which offers HS boys and girls a volunteer opportunity as role models and mentors. 
  • Adhere to an annual budget. Submit monthly contractor hours to the finance office for payment.

Educational:

  • Serve as the main point of contact for Team Coaches, and Membership as it relates to goalkeeper education, both on and off the field.
  • Inform and educate team coaches on goalkeeper program processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Personally participate in professional development opportunities through on & off-field offerings, HVS coaching education, and additional interactive programming (coaching seminars, professional licenses, international immersion)
  • Advise and guide college-bound goalkeepers in their recruiting process. Serve as a liaison between collegiate coaches and HVS athletes. Collaborate with the College Liaisons.

SKILLS FOR SUCCESS:

  • Significant goalkeeper coaching experience, in both small and large settings
  • USSF and/or USC coaching certifications.  Goalkeeping Certifications preferred.
  • Ability to deliver coaching education to both coaches and membership
  • Understanding of modern goalkeeper training techniques and methodology
  • Goalkeeper development strategies and implementation
